REVIEW: Scotty Makes Stuff 4th Axis Micro
I took a Scotty Makes Stuff 4th Axis Micro camera stabiliser with me on my trip to Kenya and Tanzania earlier this year. It’s an absolute game-changer for capturing inredibly smooth footage from cameras like the DJI Pocket 3.

Hi, I'm Ross. And among other things, I think most YouTube product videos are bad because they're way long. Everything's like what happened with recipes on the web you've got to hear someone's life story about their dog, or maybe their Nana before you get to the stuff you actually want. Just tell me if a thing is any good and don't make me wait for 18 whole minutes. Let's get straight to the meat of this. The Scotty makes stuff fourth axis micro handles are suburb. Have you tried getting footage from a moving vehicle and it gives you a headache to even watch? Because I absolutely have.
Now that was shot handheld using the Sony RX 10, mark four, but even handholding something like the DJI pocket three with gimbals, you're going to get poor results because of the sheer range of movement going on all at once. No one's going to [00:01:00] watch that. I'm not even going to watch that again. And I was there.
But you can get that smooth footage that you want, even in vehicles that are moving all over the place if you can dampen some of that movement, especially on the up and down Z axis. And this is exactly what the Scotty Makes stuff fourth axis micro does. It's a neat little bit of gear with can have weights and Springs that serves as a handle for your pocket three or other micro camera, dampening out a lot of movement and giving you shots and almost unbelievable smoothness. Now you can make almost infinite adjustments to the way the rig works for you.
I found that holding it something like this worked for me. But you work out what feels best for you. And more importantly, what's going to give you the best results.
I was lucky enough to have gone on a trip earlier this year to Kenya and Tanzania. And I took a Sony RX, 10 mark four for stills and stationary video, as well as a DJI pocket three with the Scotty, makes stuff fouth, [00:02:00] axis micro, but shooting mostly out of moving vehicles.
I'd ordered the handle from the Scotty makes up website at the last minute.
So I hadn't used it at all before I landed in Kenya. I set it up, according to the instructions. Attach the pocket three to it. And off we went with default settings. And almost zero experience.
Now I'm by no means a great videographer. I'm capturing things for myself for the most part. And I'm not really fussed by the whole use these filters buy my luts, scene. I am almost always letting the camera do all the work because I'm capturing what's there. And I don't want to miss it because I'm finding an ND filter.
So for me, I'm incredibly happy with some of the results I caught with these particular piece of kit.
You can obviously [00:03:00] use it for other things. And if you aren't like me, A person who has big, chunky boots and walks like lurch. You might be able to get that handheld steady-cam effect you want while walking around, but even without making adjustments to the way that I walk, it made a significant difference in the smoothness of the footage I was able to get on foot.
So that's it. No life story. Nothing about my Nana. Just an honest opinion. This is a solid bit of gear at a very reasonable price, that opens up a lot of shooting potential.
Now. You can go watch another video. Thanks.
