How bright is the future actually?
In the classic Timbuk 3 song “The Future’s so bright I gotta wear shades, our narrator expounds on all the reasons his future is bright:
“I’ve got a job waiting for my graduation
Fifty thou a year’ll buy a lot of beer
Things are going great, and they’re only getting better
I’m doing alright, getting good grades
The future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades
I gotta wear shades”
But also, the narrator talks about their crazy teacher who “wears dark glasses”. If this teacher wears dark glasses — shades if you will — and is crazy, then is the future actually bright? Or is it an interminable slog in a job with no hopes of prosperity or even tenure?
Makes you think.
